Workshops for Home-Based Services Providers!

Published August 6, 2025

Best Starts Home-Based Services (HBS) strategy partners with community-based organizations to provide a range of resources, supports, and social connection to strengthen early positive interactions between children and their caregivers. This support is provided to families at home, where they feel most comfortable.

To support home visitors and the HBS workforce, we are excited to provide training opportunities this fall!

The Parenting Interactions with Children: Checklist of Observations Linked to Outcomes (PICCOLO™)

PICCOLO is a checklist of 29 observable developmentally supportive parenting behaviors in four domains (affection, responsiveness, encouragement, and teaching). It is a positive, practical, versatile, culturally sensitive, valid, and reliable tool for practitioners that shows what parents can do to support their children’s development.

After completing this training, participants will be able to use the PICCOLO assessment tool to:

  • Identify positive interactions between caregivers and children
  • Connect positive interactions to positive child development, socio-emotional growth, and school readiness skills
  • Communicate with parents about their strengths and ways to build on successes
