About this opportunity

We know that when a young person has trusted adults in their life who can support them, it increases their likelihood that they will experience academic success, achieve and maintain financial stability, and make choices that support their overall health and well-being. A consistent and supportive family presence can especially make a difference for a young person during times of transition. We recognize that the terms “family” and “caregivers” are broadly defined as the people who support and care for our young people.

Best Starts is seeking to partner with King County organizations to help strengthen and build positive relationships between young people ages 5 to 24 and their parents/caregivers! This request for proposals (RFP) will support programs that provide culturally relevant supports to strengthen connections among family members, intergenerational and cultural heritage bonds, restorative practices, and the personal development of young people and their caregivers.

By increasing the supports that we know help young people navigate early adulthood – like strong social connections and concrete support from close relationships in times of need – and reducing risk factors like stress, young people and parents/caregivers can navigate their changing relationships in a positive way.

Eligibility: This request is open to nonprofit organizations, community-based organizations, tribes and tribal organizations, and public or governmental agencies serving communities in King County. Small nonprofits and community-based organizations are encouraged to submit proposals.

Funding Available: Approximately $2,760,000 is available through Best Starts for Kids to support the work described in this RFP. The maximum award amount proposers may request is up to $230,000 in funding per awarded contract for up to 30 months. This is awarded in two phases. Phase One is up to $30,000 and Phase Two is up to $200,000.
