Sharing the news of Kimberly Walker’s passing

Published April 22, 2024

We are deeply saddened to share the news that our beloved friend and colleague, Kimberly Walker, passed away.

Kimberly joined the Best Starts for Kids team in 2019 as the 5 – 24 Policy and Program Manager. In her role, Kimberly supported the Best Starts for Kids 5 – 24 team, worked closely with partners, and developed recommendations on policies impacting children and youth in King County.

Kimberly was a proud aunt and godmother who was born in California and had the pleasure of growing up in South King County.

She was a fashion lover, foodie, national beauty queen, social worker, with a deep love to build and support community that she shared with everyone she met. We are holding her family in our hearts and we will miss her dearly.

Kimberly’s work was expansive and touched countless lives. Before her work at Best Starts she was the Senior Manager of Partnerships & Collaborations at SOAR. Kimberly’s educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts in Advertising from Washington State University’s Edward R. Murrow School of Communications. She left the great Palouse and earned a Masters of Social Work from the University of Washington, with emphasis on Policy & Administration and School Social Work from the University of Washington’s School of Social Work.

Additionally, she established the Kinship Konnection/Community Connection, which serves 40 to 50 families a month with household items and resources. Passionate about serving her community, Kimberly spent a number of years serving on boards, working with community-based organizations and faith-based organizations in her pursuit of improving her community.

We will be sharing a blog post with memories of her, who she was, how she brightened our lives, and the incredible impact she had on our communities. If you would like to share a memory or photo for us to include, please send it here: Best.Starts@kingcounty.gov
