Workshops for Home-Based Services Providers!

Best Starts Home-Based Services (HBS) strategy provides relationship-based support to expecting caregivers and caregivers of children aged birth to five. Trained home visitors provide a range of resources, supports, and social connection to strengthen early positive interactions between children and their caregivers. This support is provided to families at home, where they feel most comfortable.

To support home visitors and the HBS workforce, we are excited to provide workforce supports and training opportunities in October and November!

Celebrating Child Growth with Developmental Screening: Training Series

Join Prenatal to Five providers across King County to grow your skills and confidence in facilitating relationship-based child developmental screening. You will have the opportunity to share experiences and learn best practice for adapting screening tools (eg. ASQ) to celebrate each child’s growth with their family.

We recommend providers to attend both Part 1 and Part 2 of the training series, but it is not required. This training will be available in English, Somali, Spanish, and Tigrinya. Interpretation is available upon request.

The Parenting Interactions with Children: Checklist of Observations Linked to Outcomes (PICCOLO™) is a checklist of 29 observable developmentally supportive parenting behaviors in four domains (affection, responsiveness, encouragement, and teaching). It is a positive, practical, versatile, culturally sensitive, valid, and reliable tool for practitioners that shows what parents can do to support their children’s development.

PICCOLO helps practitioners observe a wide range of parenting behaviors that help children develop over time—an approach known as developmental parenting. Parenting strengths—what the parent already believes is important to do and is comfortable doing with his or her child—are a valuable resource for increasing the developmental support available to young children.
