If you or someone you know is struggling with depression or suicidal ideation you can call Crisis Connections or one of these lines for support:
- Children’s Crisis Outreach Services (CCORS), 206-461-3222
- Call a crisis line such as King County’s Crisis Line 206-461-3222 or visit http://www.CrisisConnections.org, available 24/7, 365, to help link you to available and appropriate local resources; the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline 988 or 800-273-8255; Trevor Project for LGBTQ youth at 1-866-488-7386; or text “HOME” to 741-741 for the Crisis Text Line.
Young people across the country and in King County are facing steep challenges in mental health. Not only are young people reporting higher instances of depression, despair, and suicidal ideation, but they are often navigating systems without the support they need to support their mental and emotional well-being.
To respond to this need and build up equitable supports, Best Starts has partnered with community leaders to sustain the Youth Healing Project, which offers mini grants to young people to build peer-to-peer mental health resources. In June, Youth Healing Project leaders, community partners, and Best Starts came together to celebrate the work project leads accomplished this year.
The Youth Healing Project will be launching a third cohort early in 2024.
Youth Healing Project Celebration
Youth Healing Project leads displayed their work at the event, and shared their insights on a panel, highlighting the need for ongoing peer-led supports.
