The second Best Starts levy introduced additional funding for capital projects, including building repairs, renovations, and new construction or expansion of community and recreational centers and early learning and child care facilities. We know that access to safe places and quality programming is essential to the health and well-being of children and young people across King County.

We’re excited to share our new Best Starts for Kids Capital Projects dashboard to show where we’re investing and provide updates for each project.

Best Starts has invested over $16 million in 30 capital projects across King County. Each capital project is categorized by a Priority Area and is shown on a map in contrast to child opportunity levels by ZIP code.

Khmer Community Center Planning

Khmer Community Center

“Our project fulfills a decades-long need in the Khmer community. Since arriving as refugees in the 1970s, the community has experienced continual displacement within the greater Seattle area. Our community has a long history in White Center but has never had a stable community gather place in the neighborhood. With the acquisition of land, announcement of the community center project, and use of the existing site for community programming, we have seen an increasing sense of belonging, security, and trust—underscoring the need for a permanent community center.”
