Join King County’s Youth Bill of Rights Task Force! 

Are you a young person who wants to shape local government and policy?  

Apply to join the King County Youth Bill of Rights Task Force by December 1!  

The King County Youth Bill of Rights will be launching a fourth cohort and is seeking new members. Task force members will be paid with a modest stipend and will shape the future of youth civic engagement in the County.  

The focus of the fourth cohort will be to advise and promote the creation of the first King County Youth Commission. 

What Task Force Members will do: 

  • Partner with King County Staff and the Children and Youth Advisory Board to advise on the future King County Youth Commission.  
  • Review survey data from around the country for ideas on the commission structure.  
  • Identify existing barriers to youth participation and recommend solutions towards authentic partnership.  
  • Propose best practices on how departments can communicate effectively with the youth commission.  
  • Advise and participate in the planning of the 2026 King County Youth Summit. 

Stipend Amount 

We value your time and expertise! Task force members will receive a stipend:  

$50 per 2-hour meeting/engagement event. 
$25 per 1-hour meeting, as needed. 

Time Commitment  

The YBOR Task Force will meet between 3-5 times a month with potential for additional meetings between January and June 2026. A typical time commitment for members is about 6 hours per month. 

Most meetings will be virtual with orientation and select workshops hosted in-person near Southcenter (subject to change). 

Eligibility 

  • A resident of King County. 
  • Between 14 and 24 years old. 
  • Interested in public service, public policy, and civic engagement. 
  • Must be able to devote an average of 6 hours a month to the project.  

The YBOR project is deeply committed to equity and creating a task force that reflects the difference backgrounds and experiences within King County. 

 We encourage young people from all communities to apply especially those who identify as: 

  • Native American/Alaskan Native 
  • Asian Pacific Islander 
  • LGBTQ+ 
  • Residents from rural areas
