Executive Constantine previewed his Best Starts for Kids initiative this week in the Rainier Beach neighborhood as 4-year-old children graduated from the Parent-Child Home Program.

The Parent-Child Home Program funded by United Way of King County serves as an example of the type of proven program Best Starts is designed to bring to scale. It’s a program with evidence to improve outcomes for children and families. The program helps parents and caregivers with children ages two to four who face challenges of poverty or language barriers. Trained early literacy specialists provide home visits to build language and literacy, connecting families with specialists who are linguistic and cultural matches for the families.
