This Prenatal Support Services RFP is part of Best Starts for Kids’ prenatal to five Community-Based Parenting and Peer Supports strategy. Through this RFP, Best Starts aim to promote positive and healthy outcomes for young children, and to support parents and family, friend, and neighbor (FFN) caregivers.

We are seeking proposals from organizations that have experience providing prenatal education, prenatal support services, policy and health systems reform and advocacy. This RFP will prioritize a service focus on the African American, Native American, and Pacific Islander communities. Programming should be on prevention of adverse pregnancy and birth outcomes experienced by the priority communities as well as other groups. Click here to view data related to pregnancy and birth.
Why Prenatal Support Services?
An extensive base of research supports the critical importance of healthy pregnancies in achieving the best possible outcomes for mothers and babies. Best Starts for Kids will partner with organizations across King County to assure parents preparing for pregnancy and childbirth can receive support and education from their peers and professionals that is culturally-relevant and accessible.
This RFP will prioritize organizations that have the capacity to coordinate a multisystem program effort aimed at improving pregnancy and birth outcomes through focusing on health literacy and health equity. This RFP promotes community-centered services that offer comprehensive evidence-informed models of care that have demonstrated improved prenatal and birth outcomes in a nurturing, relationship-centered environment from preconception to postpartum. Examples of programming for prenatal support services include:
- Preconception health education
- Prenatal education and support
- Preterm labor and premature birth prevention strategies
- Culturally adaptable and flexible programing that addresses social determinants of health and other medically important information
- Care models that are holistic, culturally versatile, peer focused, and support the self-empowerment of women and families
Services may be facilitated through a partnership of several agencies. However, one agency must be the lead and provide contractual compensation to its partners for service engagement.

In alignment with the BSK Equity and Social Justice Framework and values, this investment will prioritize:
- Communities of color, low-income communities, and limited English-speaking communities
- Populations and communities experiencing significant service gaps
- Organizations that are connected to, and embedded in, the community served
Eligibility
This announcement is open to not-for-profit organizations, community-based organizations, tribes and tribal organizations, schools and school districts, and public or governmental agencies serving communities in King County. Small non-profits and community-based organizations are encouraged to submit proposals.
