Welcoming Communications Specialists to the BSK Team!

We are thrilled to welcome Erin Murphy and Hannah Johnson to the Best Starts for Kids Team. Erin and Hannah will be leading communications for the initiative and will be working closely with our new team of Best Starts project managers.

Erin_photoErin’s background as a nonprofit professional and independent consultant is rooted in strategic communications, advocacy campaigns, strategic planning and non-profit board development. Erin has 12+ years of advocacy experience in the areas of housing and homelessness, gender equity, and anti-human trafficking,

Erin has translated policy priorities for numerous audiences. She has a dual Masters degree in Public Administration and International Studies from the University of Washington. She began her digital storytelling career in Kenya in partnership with an artist collective. Apart from work, Erin spends her time cooking, enjoying pilates, constantly re-learning accordion, paddle boarding, and doing her best to parent her daughter with a social justice equity lens.

hannah_head shotHannah brings exceptionally strong social media skills to DCHS and will be instrumental in building social media platforms for the department and for Best Starts for Kids. Hannah joins us from Public Health’s Chronic Disease and Injury Prevention, where she has been responsible for developing and implementing communications plans and strategies, as well as providing communications support to community partners to engage their audiences, promote their work, and use communications approaches to reach their goals. She is especially talented in creating engaging visual media campaigns to reach diverse audiences, including both youth and adults. Hannah has a strong commitment to equity and social justice. She serves as a commissioner on the City of Seattle’s LGBTQ Commission, working to ensure the City fairly and equitably engages LGBTQ communities in policy decisions. Hannah graduated with honors from Whitman College with a BA in Race and Ethnic Studies with a public policy focus. In her free time, she enjoys backpacking, reading, playing rugby, and teaching tricks to her rescue dog, Huckleberry.

Erin’s first day was March 1st and Hannah’s is March 13th. Please join us in welcoming them both!
